- In which position should I press in the bearings?
The position is always different due to the tolerances on the bodies. The best approach is as follows:
-Install engine and transmission mounts (without bearings).
-Hang the engine and transmission in the vehicle so that everything fits perfectly.
-Mark the position where the bearings should be pressed in.
-Press in the bearings.
Because the bearings are eccentric, you can perfectly align the engine and transmission.
Why is the reinforced engine mount larger in diameter than the mounting in the engine bracket?
This is not a manufacturing defect, but deliberately designed that way.
Our engine mounts are made of rubber or polyurethane (PU) with a defined Shore hardness. To ensure the mount sits absolutely securely in the engine holder, it is manufactured with a so-called press fit. This means the outer diameter of the mount is intentionally larger (up to about 1.4 mm) than the housing in the holder.
During installation, the mount is pressed into the engine holder with appropriate tools and high pressure (approximately 5 tons of pressing force).
Why do we do this?
Maximum secure fit: The mount is play-free and cannot become loose
No twisting: Even under high load, the mount stays exactly in position
High durability: No movement in the seat = less wear
Optimal power transmission: Forces are cleanly introduced into the holder
Due to the elastic properties of rubber or PU, the mount adapts during pressing and builds up a permanent preload. It is precisely this preload that ensures the mount functions reliably even under heavy stress.
Important:
Installation should always be done with a suitable press. Hammering or similar can damage the mount or result in an improper fit.
