Trailer tuning made easy - customised wheel spacers with the Epytec LK1 configurator
1. Introduction & aim of the conversion
Small-wheeled trailers often have a problem: although the standard 10-inch wheels are compact, they are rather limited in terms of appearance, ride comfort and tyre choice. Our customer was faced with precisely this problem - and had a clear vision: Larger 13-inch wheels should be produced without jeopardising the trailer's stability or registration.
But as is so often the case, the devil is in the detail: the space between the wheel and the trailer frame was simply too tight. The solution: A customised 25 mm wheel spacer from Epytec, developed with our LK1 configurator.
2. Technical details of the upgrade
The trailer originally had a classic KNOTT axle with a 4x100 bolt circle and small 10-inch steel rims. To convert to 13-inch wheels, the wheel had to be moved further outwards - otherwise it would have rubbed against the frame.
Thanks to our Epytec LK1 configurator, our customer was able to easily enter the desired bolt circle, the hub bore and the required widening. As a result, we produced a 25 mm thick wheel spacer that was precisely matched to the original hub shape and rim fit of the trailer.
This was then mounted on both sides - an absolutely plug-and-play solution, without any adjustments to the trailer frame.
✅ Important: A technical certificate from TÜV SÜD was supplied with this customised product. This means that registration in accordance with §21 is easily possible at any TÜV centre - even for trailers without series approval for larger rim diameters.
3. Realisation with the LK1 configurator
Our customer configured his wheel spacers precisely using our bolt circle configurator. Based on the dimensions entered, a customised milled track plate was produced that perfectly matched the hub of his trailer. Of course, a technical report was included to ensure trouble-free approval by the TÜV.
4. Installation & assembly procedure
The installation was very simple:

Dismantle old 10-inch wheels

Clean & degrease hub surface

Place bolt circle adapter on the existing axle hub

Fasten with the screws supplied

Fitting new 13-inch wheels
5. Driving behaviour & test results
With the new 13-inch wheels, the trailer now offers:

Improved driving behaviour at higher speeds

Less rolling resistance

Better tyre selection

Higher rolling circumference for more stable road holding
The customer was particularly satisfied with the simple installation and the convincing result - both visually and technically.
6. TÜV & Authorisation
The wheel spacers were supplied with a technical report.
This means that registration with the TÜV can be carried out without any problems as part of an individual approval. Our production is subject to certification by TÜV SÜD, which makes work easier for the authorities.
