Installation instructions for article 698 02M conversion for installation in front-wheel drive cars e.g. VR6 conversion to 02M transmission

Here you will learn how to proceed step by step to install the 02m 6-speed gearbox in all front-wheel drive vehicles. The 6-speed gearbox can be easily flanged to all common VW engines such as VR6 16V 1.8T G60 etc. and is much more stable than the 02A or 02J 5-speed gearbox.

With this Epytec Tuning Adapter, you can easily convert the 6-speed 02M 02Q gearbox, which is normally intended for all-wheel drive, to front-wheel drive. The Epytec Tuning Adapter is not only needed to mount the shaft flange, but is also important to seal the oil line that is normally open for the angle drive.

First, the angle drive must be emoved from the 02M gearbox.

Afterwards, the existing toothed ring bearing must be removed as it is no longer needed.

The next step is to remove the spring and the plastic ring from the drive shaft flange (part number: 02M409356A), so that the drive shaft flange later disappears completely into the housing. Sometimes the ring or the plastic ring may not be present on the flange at all, in which case this point can of course be skipped.

Then the sealing ring (02M409189) must be pressed into the Epytec Tuning Adapter.

Then insert the supplied sealing rings into the Epytec adapter plate.

Tipp!!

It is best to grease the ring a little bit so that it holds better in the grooves of the plate.

Now the drive shaft flange can be inserted into the plate and the plate mounted with all 4 screws.

Important!!

first screw all the bolts into the gearbox with a few turns of the thread, then align the drive shaft flange in the gear teeth and then tighten all 4 bolts in a criss-cross pattern.

Tipp!!

Use medium-strength threadlocker everywhere, of course, so that nothing can come loose due to the resulting vibrations :)

Do not use the 02M 4WD bolt to fix the flange, as they are too long. The 02m 2WD bolt must be used to secure the flange in the gearbox, e.g. installed in the TDI.
