Installation instructions for article 532 VW Caddy 14d caliper adapter  disc brake G60 rear caliper lowering

Here you find out how to proceed step by step to convert the rear axle of the Caddy 14D from the drum brake to the G60 brake system.

Dismantling:

  •  Old brake system (brake disc, brake drum)
  • Remove or machine the air baffle or brake baffle or armature plate (although we prefer to remove it because the brake is ventilated better).

!!Important!!:

It is essential to check that there are no rust or paint residues on the screwing points of the steering knuckle or wheel hub. If this is the case, please clean them. Then check the threads of the steering knuckle for damage.

What do you need?

  • Depending on the technical knowledge about 1-2 hours time
  • Torque wrench with matching attachments
  • Liquid screw lock

Montage:

First the old brake drum of the VW Caddy 14d has to be removed.

Then the contact surface for the Epytec tuning adapter to mount the G60 brake on the rear axle of the VW Caddy 14d must be cleaned so that there is a flat surface for the adapter. We recommend to use a small wire brush

The Epytec adapter plate is then prepared for assembly. Lubricate the screws with screw lock.

Once the caliper adapter is installed, the new kingpin and heat shield can be installed.

Once the heat shield and kingpin are mounted, the G60 brake can be mounted with the 226x10mm brake discs.

Then you have to attach the brake caliper adapter to the rear axle of the VW Caddy 14d with a tightening torque of 35NM.

Then the brake caliper carrier of the G60 brake system can be reassembled.

Then you can mount the G60 brake system  on the brake disc

In combination with Epytec adapters 307 (click here) the original handbrake cable can still be used.

Now you can mount the rim again.

When you mount the rim, you must ensure that the brake caliper does not rub against the rim. If this is the case, you can counteract this with spacers if necessary, so that the rim has enough distance to the brake caliper. Here you find our spacers (click here)

Now the conversion with the G60 brake calipers and matching brake disc is almost complete.

Finally, the freedom of movement of the new brake system must be checked. To do this, turn the vehicle completely to the left and right and check that nothing is rubbing anywhere, or that you are not standing in line anywhere, e.g. on the ball joint, wishbone, etc.

The whole conversion has to be done in the sprung and rebounded state.

If there is a collision when the steering wheel is fully turned, you can easily counteract this with steering angle limiters (click here for our steering angle limiters)
