Installation instruction Article 694 Brake caliper adapter for the 3 series BMW M series E91 E92 E93 to convert to the F30 F31 4-piston brake calipers in combination with the M2 M3 380x30 brake discs.
Disassembly:
- Old brake system (brake disc, brake caliper and brake caliper carrier).
- Remove or process the air baffle or brake baffle or anchor plate (we prefer the removal, as the ventilation of the brake is better ensured).
!!Important!!:
What do you need t?
- Depending on your technical knowledge, about 1-2 hours of time
- Torque spanner with suitable attachments
- Use liquid threadlocker / Loctite to secure the screws.
First, the old brake system must be dismantled so that the new caliper adapter with the F30 F31 4-piston calipers and the M2 M3 380x30mm brake disc can be mounted. The brake line can be reused, but we recommend converting directly to steel braided lines, in this course, as this generally makes sense.
Before pressing the eccentrics with a hydraulic press or a large vice, it is essential to ensure that the sleeves are pressed in the correct position and do not tilt. To do this, put the components together at the axle and align the brake calliper so that it fits perfectly. Mark the hole position and then press the sleeves into the brake callipers.
Then fit the brake caliper adapters and check the screw-in depth.
!!Important!!
is that the screws do not protrude, otherwise there is a risk of collision with the caliper. .
If necessary, grind the bolts down a little or use a washer so that there is no contact with the brake calliper. The tightening torque must not exceed 80 NM!n!
The caliper adapters can then be fitted to the F30 F31 Performance caliper with a tightening torque of approx. 45 NM. A little Loctite must be used here to secure them. Then the 380mm brake discs from the M2 or M3 can be attached to the wheel hub. Afterwards you can fix the prepared F30 F31 Performance brake calipers with a maximum tightening torque of 80 NM.
!!Important!!
Please check that the bolts do not protrude beyond the adapter and touch the caliper. It must not be pappen that the screws hit the brake calliper and are thus displaced.
Then the brake pads are reinstalled with the original sensor. Then the brake hose is reconnected and the entire brake system is bled.
When you mount the rim, make sure that the brake caliper does not rub against the rim. If this is the case, you can counteract this with wheel spacers if necessary, so that the rim has enough distance to the brake calliper. Click here for our wheel spacers (click here).
The conversion with the BMW F30/31 4-piston brake callipers and matching 380x30mm brake disc from the BMW M2/3/4 is now almost complete.
Finally, the movement of the new brake system has to be checked. To do this, turn the vehicle in completely to the left and right and check that nothing is rubbing against anything, or that nothing is touching anything, such as the suspension joint, wishbone, etc. The whole thing has to be done in the suspended position.
The whole procedure must be carried out with the suspension on and off.
If there is a collision at full steering angle, it may be possible to counteract this quite simply with steering angle limiters (click here for our steering angle limiters).
