Installation instruction for article no.690 to change to the TTRS brake calipers with the original R32 brake discs from the VW Golf 4 series.

Here you can find out how to install the TTRS brake system with the original VW Golf 4 R32 brake discs on the VW Golf 4 series step by step.n

Disassembly:

  • Old brake system (brake disc, brake calliper and brake calliper carrier)
  • Remove or process air baffle or brake baffle or anchor plate (we prefer the removal, as the ventilation of the brake is better guaranteed).

!!Important!!:

It is essential to check that there are no rust or paint residues on the bolt-on points of the steering knuckle or wheel hub. If this is the case, please clean them. Then check the threads of the steering knuckle for damage.

What do you need?

  • Depending on your technical knowledge, about 1-2 hours of time
  • Torque spanner with suitable attachments
  • Use liquid threadlocker / Loctite to secure the screws.

These are all the parts you need for the conversion to the TTRS brake system with the R32 brake discs on the VW Golf 4.
  • Original TTRS brake calipers Brake caliper left part no: 8J0 615 107
  • brake caliper right part no: 8J0 615 108
  • set of brake pads part no: 8J0 698 151 E
  • Brake discs from Golf 4 R32 334x32 mm Part No 1J0 615 301AA und 1J0 615 302 A
In this case, the matching  steel braided lines were also installed.

First the wheel must be removed.

Then completely dismantle the old brake and clean the wheel hub. Tip: it is best to place a small container underneath to collect the brake fluid.

Next, the Epytec Tuning Adapters are attached with the shorter screws supplied.

Once the Epytec Tuning Adapters are fitted, you can mount the VW Golf 4 R32 brake disc.

Tipp!!

Clean the wheel hub with a wire brush so that everything can lie flat.
Once the R32 brake disc is mounted, you can mount the TTRS brake calipers with the long screws supplied.
Afterwards, the new steel braided lines or the old brake hose can be refitted. All bolts should also be checked to ensure that they have been tightened to the correct torque. You can find this either in the service manual or with the help of the torque calculator (click here).

These have the following advantages:
  • no pressure loss when the brakes are applied, noticeably exact pressure point
  • No swelling as with rubber lines
  • Cost savings, as steel braided lines have an almost unlimited service life and do not have to be replaced every 3-5 years.
  • Shorter braking distance
  • Protection against martens
  • Optics

Now you can mount the rim again.

When you mount the rim, make sure that the brake caliper does not rub against the rim. If this is the case, you can counteract this with wheel spacers, if necessary, so that the rim has enough distance to the brake calliper. Click here for our wheel spacers (click here)

So the conversion with the Audi TTRS brake calipers and matching 334x32mm VW Golf 4 R32 brake disc is almost complete.

Finally, the movement of the new brake system has to be checked. To do this, turn the vehicle completely to the left and right and check that nothing is rubbing against anything, or that nothing is touching anything, e.g. the suspension joint, wishbone, etc. The whole thing has to be done in the sprung and braked position.

The whole procedure must be carried out with the suspension on and off.

If there is a collision at full steering angle, it may be possible to counteract it with steering angle limiters (click here for our steering angle limiters).
