Installation instruction for article 223 Block stiffening plate for VW Golf Audi G60 16v Turbo 1,8T
Installation:
- Before you start working, check that the crankshaft including main bearing, thrust washers and bearing blocks are mounted in the correct sequence in the engine block. Only then can the block stiffening plate be fitted.
- No seals are used for the block stiffening. Liquid sealant is best used to achieve the best possible rigidity.
- Place the 10 spacer sleeves on the screw holes of the main bearing blocks
- Place the block stiffening plate and align it. (It is recommended to screw 3 - 5 pieces of the M6 oil pan bolts into the engine block, divided all around, to avoid slipping of the oil pan seal when tightening the main bearing bolts).
- Insert the 10 M10x95mm socket head cap screws, high tensile, with the enclosed washers into the screw holes and hand tighten them all evenly. (It may be necessary to shorten the screws slightly).
- In the first pass, tighten the screws from the inside to the outside (same sequence as for the cylinder head) with 60Nm and then with 80Nm.
- Now the oil pump, oil pan seal and oil pan can be fitted.

Studs fit from ARP BMW E46 M S52 MotorTo prevent the oil from foaming, it is ideal to fit a baffle plate and a side baffle from the Golf 1 with DX engine (must be cut to size) or mill out the baffle plate from the outer stud bolts.
Note!!
Due to the connecting rods of some manufacturers and their design, it can happen, especially with 2.0l engines, that there is not enough space between the block stiffening plate and the connecting rod oil pump.It is therefore essential to check whether all components move past the plate with a space of at least 2 mm.
If necessary, the plate must be minimally machined to ensure movement of all components.
