Here you will learn how to proceed step by step so that you can install the original VW Golf 3 starter motor in your VW T3 Bus / Syncro with the TDI engine conversion.

required material:

1 Adapter plate Epytec, including screw material
1x Cable lug 6mm²
2.0KW starter e.g. from VW Golf 3 suitable part numbers: 0 001 125 042, 0 001 125 012 / 0 001 125 013
Adapter cable with the VW partnumber: 000979277E
associated plugs VW partnumber: 357972771

As the original 1.7KW starter motor starts the 1.9L diesel engines with problems, you can quickly remedy the situation with this cheap conversion.

Installation:

Disconnect battery and secure poles

Dismantling the old starter

On the original starter motor there is a holder for a cooling water hose at the end. The hose is pulled out from there. Then loosen the two 19 mm screws on the starter.

To pull out the starter , it must be twisted a little and presses against the metal holder from the clutch cylinder.

The best way is to remove the starter with the cables and first disconnect them in the engine compartment. The thick positive lead (30) can be pulled off with a 13 mm nut and the flat plug from the solenoid switch by pressing it.

Installation of the adapter plate on the new motor starter

The adapter plate is mounted on the original VW Golf 3 2.0KW starter motor with the 2 enclosed screws. Pull the Epytec adapter plate over the starter motor and fasten it.

4.Installing the new motor starter

The positive lead (30) and the lead for the magnetic switch are reconnected. The 6mm² cable lug can be used for the magnetic switch.

The installation of the new starter is much easier because it is smaller and there is no cone on the pinion. You put the starter on and then fix it with the original screws.
